Engage your pupils with challenging behaviour in lessons, so that all* of your pupils can learn

(*yep, even the tricky cherubs setting their books alight)

You can’t get them to be quiet? There’s one particular pupil who gets under your skin? Your stomach churns every time you see 8FR on your timetable….

…and when was the last time you managed to have a lunchtime break (let alone eat anything)?

You want to make a positive difference to all of your pupils’ lives and help lift their aspirations, so that even the ones with challenging behaviour can find enjoyment in your lessons – and make academic progress.

You want to understand your pupils with additional behaviour needs and SEMH, and effectively differentiate your learning to help them thrive with their education, so that you can become that teacher that you dreamed of when you stepped into the job…

…and you want to know what to do about Mo who is currently sat on the roof ( again), so that you can start your own weekend…

“It was fantastic. You made me feel at ease, answered all of my questions and went above and beyond to help find solutions to anything I was facing…Definitely seek the support; Adele is extremely knowledgeable and provides easy and manageable ideas that you can quickly put into place”

Assistant Primary Head

I can help you  to confidently manage behaviour that challenges you

(so that you can actually get on with the teaching and make your weekends work-free)

As a schools and education leader and speaker, I will help you gain the confidence needed to effectively support challenging behaviour; it’s a tricky topic, and there are many different approaches – we will find what works for you, so by the time we finish working together, you’ll have clear next steps on how you can make behaviour work in your school, for your pupils on a Tuesday afternoon when the guinea pig’s escaped from 5FR and the science block is leaking gas.

Here’s how you can feel (re)-inspired about behaviour, make a positive difference to all of your pupils and not spend every after school in detention yourself:

Or pick my brain for a one-off, 1-2-1 hr session.

I’ve had juice poured on my head, been whacked by a skateboard – and have taught a year 7 pupil who has experienced severe trauma, how to read their first ever word…

I’m Adele Bates, an international Behaviour and Education Specialist, public speaker and forthcoming author of “Miss, I don’t give a sh*t” Engaging with challenging behaviour in the classroom.”

I support school leaders, classroom teachers, homeschooling carers, and parents to empower pupils with behavioural needs and SEMH to thrive in their education. As well as enabling these pupils to learn their timetables or get an extra GCSE, my ambition is to help these, often misunderstood approaches to pupils with behavioural needs and SEMH.

With nearly 20 years’ teaching experience in a variety of settings: mainstream primary and secondary, Pupil Referral Units, Alternative Provision and Special Schools and leadership experience as the Lead on Equality and Diversity in a mainstream school, I work within a diverse range of educational settings. I train and mentor teachers and trainees and am a Behavioural Consultant for senior leaders and local authorities, advising on whole school approaches to behaviour.

In 2019, I was awarded a full grant to carry out an educational research trip in Finland to observe, teach, interview and learn about the Finnish Education System’s inclusive approach to education. This both confirmed and informed my approach to inclusion in schools – especially when it comes to behaviour; mainly, that it is our jobs as educators, schools and the education system at large, to keep our teaching approaches flexible enough to support all of our pupils so that they may thrive with their education; isolation and exclusion rarely lead to good results for our young people. To read more about my Finnish trip click here.

My vision for education is one in which all differences are included and welcomed; education is flexible, relevant and leads towards positive social change.

I deliver training and keynotes for educational events and organisations across Europe, including TEDx 2020, the National Education Union and Amnesty International. I am the Educational Associate for Trauma Inform and an Associate on Behaviour with Independent Thinking. I am a contributing writer for education books: For Flourishing’s Sake, Big Gay Adventures in Education, Square Peg and The Big Book of Wellbeing.

I have a First-Class Undergraduate Degree, a Master’s Degree and a PGCE.

My business is 4 years old and regularly donates to educational and child-centred charities.
