I was working with a mixed ability year 10 English class in a mainstream school. There were four ‘high profile’ pupils in it, known for behaviour and disruption. Being mixed ability, they were in the same room as some ‘high ability, high target’ pupils, and everything in between.
One pupil in particular, was known by the local police, in constant detentions, sometimes came to school high, often didn’t make it to lessons…and wasn’t known for his love of English Literature.
It took a lot of work.
