I’m Adele Bates, an international Behaviour and Education Specialist, public speaker and forthcoming author of “Miss, I don’t give a sh*t” Engaging with challenging behaviour in the classroom.”

I support school leaders, classroom teachers, homeschooling carers, and parents to empower pupils with behavioural needs and SEMH to thrive in their education. As well as enabling these pupils to learn their timetables or get an extra GCSE, my ambition is to help these, often misunderstood approaches to pupils with behavioural needs and SEMH.

With nearly 20 years’ teaching experience in a variety of settings: mainstream primary and secondary, Pupil Referral Units, Alternative Provision and Special Schools and leadership experience as the Lead on Equality and Diversity in a mainstream school, I work within a diverse range of educational settings. I train and mentor teachers and trainees and am a Behavioural Consultant for senior leaders and local authorities, advising on whole school approaches to behaviour.

In 2019, I was awarded a full grant to carry out an educational research trip in Finland to observe, teach, interview and learn about the Finnish Education System’s inclusive approach to education. This both confirmed and informed my approach to inclusion in schools – especially when it comes to behaviour; mainly, that it is our jobs as educators, schools and the education system at large, to keep our teaching approaches flexible enough to support all of our pupils so that they may thrive with their education; isolation and exclusion rarely lead to good results for our young people. My vision for education is one in which all differences are included and welcomed; education is flexible, relevant and leads towards positive social change.

I deliver training and keynotes for educational events and organisations across Europe, including TEDx 2020, the National Education Union and Amnesty International. I am the Educational Associate for Trauma Inform and an Associate on Behaviour with Independent Thinking. I am a contributing writer for education books: For Flourishing’s Sake, Big Gay Adventures in Education, Square Peg and The Big Book of Wellbeing.

I have a First-Class Undergraduate Degree, a Master’s Degree and a PGCE.

 My business is 4 years old and regularly donates to educational and child-centred charities.
